Gunning 2 Day

Make sure you reserve the weekend of the 5th/6th May for the Gunning 2 Day.

We are still awaiting NSW police approvals so we will be releasing the full event details once those final approvals have been secured.

The Race Director for Gunning on the weekend will be Dougal Torrance. If you can assist with the event as a Marshal or Driver, the club can offer payment to offset petrol costs and other expenses. If you can help, please contact Dougal at president.actvets.cc.

Event Traffic Controller courses for 2018

Two courses (free) have been scheduled for 2018, 21st April and 8 September. Details are available on Cycling ACT’s web site http://www.act.cycling.org.au/Road/News/2018-cycling-event-traffic-controllers-course-dates-confirmed

Members previously accredited as ATCs will need to do the updated training course to get ETC accreditation. Having enough controllers available in the club is critical to our ability to run races in the ACT and it is likely we will need to have ETCs for NSW races in the future. Please register for a place on one of the courses ASAP as numbers are limited.

RACE REPORT:

Cooma – 7th April

This year’s road season kicked off at Cooma on an undulating, 20km out-and-back course. This was the first time this race had been held for well over a decade so there was a little uncertainty where the start was but fortunately no one turned up after the race had begun. There was also a traffic accident in Cooma causing a diversion, so for many of us who’ve only seen the main street this was a good chance to see a new housing development, the cemetery and the local high school. Conditions were warm with a stiff cross wind at the finish, although riders said it was more like a tail wind for the dash home. I’d recommend that we have a 60km event for the higher grades in future with the addition of another marshal at the 10km mark. Special thanks to Graham Hendrie for his invaluable assistance. Graham showed his versatility by signing on all the riders, printing the start sheet and then lining up to race. Many thanks to Jarrod Cook, Kevin Wells, Tess McLachlan and Mayumi Shinozaki for marshalling. The ever reliable sports trainer Tom Roberts helped out with the chute, and getting the ern lit. A friend of Phill Coulton’s had spread the word among Cooma riders so we had a good contingent of local “visitors” making the most of the non-member first ride option. Being an out-and-back course there’s nothing to comment on race wise, except some riders showed some great early season form. Here are the winners:
– A Christophe Barbaret
– B David Dickson
– C Mark Taylor
– D Andy Matz
– E Jan Koehler
– F Penelope Anderson
– G Mike Spoljaric
