The Jan Plan

D, E, F grades and Bernie,

Please read this. The club committee has discussed trying to even up the numbers in D, E and F grades. This involves abolishing the current G grade, moving some E graders up to D and combining the rest as the new improved E grade. Bernie gets promoted to F grade.

These riders will be promoted from E to D grade:

  • Ross Robinson
  • Kirsti McVay
  • Jan Koehler
  • Tony Sheehan
  • Don DeSmet
  • Alex Sommariva
  • Kerry Muir

The other riders in E will stay in E and be joined by Ian M and Polly plus the other regular F graders wherever you are.

D to C

Brian Chugg and Michael Hanbury have been promoted C grade to take some of the speed out of the front of D.

If you are intending to race and Saturday and don’t know where you fit in, please email me on handicapper@actvets.cc. Or if you want to be promoted to D grade just say the word.

Lookout Hill race on Saturday

Lookout Hill race will be a Handicap rather than a Secret Handicap. Again, we could use an extra helper at the race on Saturday. If you or someone you know is available to come along and help, that would be appreciated.

Upcoming Marshal Roster

Thank you to those who have already volunteered to help. Nominees, in blue have been selected based on results from the previous race season and the period since they last helped at a race. Nominees are requested to advise their availability/unavailability to the race committee (race.committee@actvets.cc) as soon as possible.

Summer series crit races are held at Stromlo Forest Park on Tuesday evenings and road races are held on Sunday mornings.

RACE REPORTS:

Yass Graded Scratch – 22nd June

A fine contingent of 44 riders made it to the start for a demanding days racing out at Yass on Saturday.

We had great conditions with blue skies and just the a hint of a breeze, although it was a wee bit fresh in the shade!

Unlike last year, there were several sprints for the win from B, C, D and E grades and everyone completed the tough course.

In A grade Steve Crispin crossed the line 1st in a rare solo breakaway from the rest of A (there was a suggestion from a fellow A grader that his bike should be checked for a motor..) with Neil Skipper coming in next on his own, followed by Rainer Wilton who out-sprinted the best of the rest for 3rd.

B grade had 3 riders closely contesting the finish with the tandem of Ashley Carruthers and Don Mankewich pipping Conan Liu for 2nd and Matt Hinchcliffe for 3rd.

There was another 3 man sprint to the line in C grade with Warwick Wilson taking the win from John Paul De Sousa 2nd and Ian McVay 3rd.

The biggest sprint of the afternoon was from D grade. 6 riders barrelled to the finish line with Michael Hanbury emerging victorious over Anthony Beasley and Ross Robinson rounding the podium out for 3rd.

E grade had a 2-way sprint between Kerrie Muir and Kirsti McVay, who had broken away and were well ahead of the rest of E, with Kerrie holding her lead all the way to the line just ahead of Kirsti. A solo Russell Marston took out 3rd place.

Ian Morton proved too strong for Polly Templeton for the only 2 riders in F grade and the race was rounded out with Bernie Crowe crossing the line in G.

A big thanks to all the marshals and drivers who did a fantastic job on a challenging course:
– Robert Solomon (Driver)
– Iver Lange (Driver)
– Donald de SMET
– Aaron Sedgmen
– Andrew Harrold
– Elton Ivers
– Simon Whitehead (SMA first Aid)
– Graham Hendrie (van, instructions, timing, results and everything else)
