Dalton

Perfect weather greeted riders in Dalton on Saturday. Those who were came out were treated to warm, windless conditions. Riders who may have struggled on Apollo Road bounced back with strong rides. Adam “Pozzovivo” Potts won C grade after finishing last the week before. This just shows that we should never be put off by a poor result, as things can turn around quickly on a different course. Those looking for something even flatter have a great opportunity on Saturday at the Sutton driver training course. Riders should ride in their road grade on this occasion. We also welcomed Nathan de Tourettes – our first 30-year-old rider taking advantage of the AVCC constitution change allowing males and females 30+ to join. Spread the word to young riders that they are welcome to join and compete with us oldies.

Ken Dinnerville handicap

Roger Northcote battled out the sprint finish with others from his group and limit at the Ken Dinnerville handicap held in Gunning on Sunday. Roger was 8th across the line in a mass finish. Rainer Wilton was 22nd and Marc Vroomans 26th. The first scratch rider was 4 minutes behind the winner, a great result for the underdogs.

RACE REPORTS:

Dalton Graded Scratch – 20th July

On Saturday, on a great winters day with very little wind and a beautiful 14 degres, 38 hardie cyclist made their way to Dalton for the ACT Vets weekly race. With very little traffic on the road the race was started a couple of minutes late.

Four riders in A grade were the first to leave. Next was the largest field of twelve in B grade. Seven in C grade and seven in D grade. These guys all had to do 2 laps from the start out to Gunning and back to the start.

With A grade returning for their first time it was then time to send out the only player in F grade, Bernie Crowe hot on their tail. Once D grade had made the turn the Seven final players of E grade were let lose on the course. With all the grades returning past the start, finish to head out through Dalton most groups where still together leaving the finish marshalls contemplating how the sprint finish would playout.

A grade there was no sprint finish with Steve Crispin coming in 1 minute 24 seconds ahead of his fellow riders with Nathan Detourettes second and Gerard Tffen third.
B grade this was a different story with a Conan Liu thinking he was was over the line to a win and sitting only to be piped at the post by Aaron Sedgmen and Robert Langridge third.
C grade was was another sprint with Adam Potts just beating John Paul De Sousa and coming in for third Chis Nolan.
D grade was taken by Anthony Beasley with Ross Robinson coming in a second and followed by Des Brown for third.
E grade the winner was Elizabeth Lowe, Donald de Smet second and Elton Ivers third.
F grade was taken by Bernie Crowe.
