Finish Line marshal required for Saturday 3 Aug – Lookout Hill

A marshal has pulled out from helping at the race on this Saturday. The role will be helping at the start/finish, so you don’t need to be an ETC. If you can help, please contact me or the race director.

Upcoming Marshal Roster

Thank you to those who have already volunteered to help. Nominees, in blue have been selected based on results from the previous race season and the period since they last helped at a race. Nominees are requested to advise their availability/unavailability to the race committee (race.committee@actvets.cc) as soon as possible.

Summer series crit races are held at Stromlo Forest Park on Tuesday evenings and road races are held on Sunday mornings.

RACE REPORTS:

Sutton Driver Training Center – 27th July

A grade – 10 riders in total. Brendan Byatt shot off from the group and built a healthy lead in the early laps. The pack hauled Brendan back with Gerard Tiffen, Rainer Wilton, Marc Vroomans and Jason Chalker subsequently escaping off the front. Gerard and Rainer increased the pace and were putting in smoking laps. Rainer won from Gerard, Marc and Jason.

B grade – 12 riders. B grade stayed together for the early laps before Rob Langridge put on an attack. He was reeled in and Tim Minehan was the next to try his hand. The bunch stayed together for the rest of the race with Tim Brown taking the sprint from Craig Tozer and Aaron Sedgmen.

C grade – 12 riders. After some initial laps Ed Logue, Kevin Wells and Chris Nolan broke away. The group came back together again before Kevin Wells soloed off the front and stayed off the front with a fine display of strength. Kevin won from Adam Potts and Brian Peak.

D grade – 12 riders. Felipe Lopes Reis broke away early and built a good gap over the chasing bunch. James Curran, Tony Beasley and Al Bontjer gave chase. Felipe was caught towards the end of the race and Al prevailed in the sprint over Terrence Merrigan and Craig O’Neall.

E grade – The handicapper in his wisdom decided to split E grade into E1 and E2. The handicapper got it right as both groups circulated in their own groups for the entire race. Malcolm Patterson making a welcome return to racing and to no ones surprise chatted through the whole race in E2. Ian Morton led the E1 sprint out from a long way and was just pipped on the line by Liz Lowe who benefited from Ian’s huge lead out with Don De Smet third. This was the closet finish of the day. In E2, Howard Moffat provided a long lead out also before being swamped on the line by Rosemary Robinson and Tes McLachlan. Howard came in third.

F grade – It was all Bernie. Even though he had no competition Bernie was getting quicker each lap.

The Sutton course again provided great racing and attracted loads of positive comments. Thanks to Ian McVay for bringing out the van and setting up and to Nigel Wines for marshalling.
