Training Opportunity
A reminder that the Committee has received an amazing offer from Jimmy Carrol of http://www.performancelab.cc/ offering coaching services to club members with the aim of focusing on the Snowy Mountains Classic 2022 as a Target. Of course, whilst this is the focus of the training plan, there would be great benefits to our general endurance and strength for all the other races and riding we partake in.
Jimmy has offered to develop an 18 week plan, specifically for our members, that has a specific focus on this event and climbing. What this would look like:
Jimmy would set up a plan, available for free using Training Peaks . He would also add workouts each week on his Performancelab.cc website – which could be used with zwift/garmin, or whatever method of e-training you utilise. Alternatively, you could follow the guidance on an excel spreadsheet.
As covid restrictions calm down (hopefully), Jimmy can run a Sunday session of a long 100+ km ride with hills. Noting, Jimmy would need club members assistance, so we can separate those riding with differing paces to ensure it’s an evenly matched ride for all abilities. There are also weekly zwift training rides available.
Ideally this is a service to provide athletes as a general plan. Once set up, it’ll be set and forget for most. It should be noted that we, as club members accessing this free service do not overload/swamp Jimmy with multiple questions from members participating. Jimmy will provide information on what to expect, and what level of access (and when) so people understand what they get from Per4mance Lab Coaching. For example, we would expect that all questions be asked during the Sunday rides, or Zwift rides.
If you are interested in getting in depth data analysis and workout feedback, Jimmy can discuss the onboarding process with you.
Jimmy is also happy to answer general training questions for anyone that’s unsure of a direction for themselves.
I want to thank Jimmy for offering this free support to the club’s membership.

Track Racing – Practice Session
The track racing season will kick off with a Practice Session starting at 6.00pm on Wednesday 20 October. There will be no racing. Rider numbers are limited by Covid restrictions.
Please note that we don’t have a confirmed track booking, at present. However, we are optimistic and will advise riders via the trackriders email, if there is a last-minute cancellation of the event.
Covid Restrictions
Only 25 persons are permitted at the track, for the practice session. In addition, riders must wear a face mask at all times except for riding and recovering your breath after exertion on the track.
Due to the limited numbers, interested riders will need to advise their intended attendance, by email to, gon@netspeed.com.au
You will be advised, by return email, if you are accepted for the event. Please note:
- Event acceptance will be on a first-in, first-served basis;
- You should book before 5pm on 19 October, at the latest;
- Please do not attend unless your booking is confirmed (otherwise you will push numbers above the mandated limit);
- Please do attend if you have a confirmed booking (otherwise you will deny someone else the opportunity).
Spare Track Bikes
We have access to spare track bikes if you are a novice and wish to try track racing. Please advise, when booking, if you need a bike. Note that you will need to bring your own pedals. You may need to pump up tyres (we will have a pump available) and adjust saddle / bar position. You will need to check over the bike for safety purposes. Although we will assist as far as practical, equipment safety and providing tools for fitting / adjustments is your responsibility.
Track Information
Narrabundah Track is a high-banked, oval track suitable only for conventional, fixed-gear track bikes with a high bottom bracket. We are unable to accommodate road bikes on this track.
Note:
- Narrabundah track is located off Goyder Street in Narrabundah;
- We welcome riders to try a high-banked track for the first time;
- New riders can get practical advice on gearing, bunch riding & track etiquette;
- Experienced riders can tune up the machinery & motor;
- All riders can express their preference for events & races;
- The practice session will be around 1hr 30 mins starting at 6.00pm;
- There is no formal structure to the practice. We can assist with introductory training, if requested;
- You can do your own thing, if you prefer.
Track Etiquette
A few basics on track etiquette for the practice session:
- Use the designated track positions for cruising, tempo or fast pacing; (The faster you ride, the higher you should be positioned on track. Overtake outside other riders);
- Hold your line – don’t make changes of speed or position unless you are clear of other riders;
- Be very careful if you are crossing or moving on / off the track (It is your responsibility not to impede other riders in this situation);
- Start from the fence and be aware of riders approaching;
- It is best to wear clear or light tinted goggles (shaded portions of the track have low visibility with regular sunnies);
- All riders will need to be cautious, as there will be novice riders at the practice session.
Regular track racing will start on Wednesday 27 October.
We are allowed attendance up to 25 persons for the initial track racing event on 27 October. This will increase to 30 persons after 29 October.
