From the Race Committee

Over the past fortnight, some members have been experiencing payment issues (unrelated to Optus-fail) when trying to pay online through RMS for either criterium, road or track races. For the affected users, they have loaded the payment form in the calendar, they have entered their payment details and clicked Pay, have received a receipt, but their name has not been added to the registration list. In some cases, they have attempted this work flow again, and again, unwittingly racking up multiple payment transactions. There appears to be a combination of a Chrome browser with either Android or Windows which exacerbates the problem. Please note that the security of your transaction information has not been compromised with this issue.

If you have attempted to register and pay for a race since around 28 October 2023 and experienced the issues above, please check your credit card transactions for multiple payment entries for the same event from VISA[or MC]-SQ *CAPITAL REGION MASTER1800595310.  Please send race.committee@actvets.cc a screenshot of these multiple transactions with your name, race number, and your preferred means of reconciliation (credit or refund). We apologise for this inconvenience and are confident in restoring order soon.

TRACK RACING REPORT- THURSDAY 16 NOVEMBER

Thursday 16th November provided warm, dry weather for track racing. There was a slight headwind in the
back straight. Overall, conditions were ideal. Attendance was moderate (11 riders), though this is the
second largest attendance this season.
The 8-lap A grade scratch race commenced with Steve Jones leading out at an easy pace. Subsequent
lead outs by Warwick Wilson, Conan Liu and John Paul De Sousa ramped up the pace each lap. Steve
Jones and Warwick Wilson each took a turn at leading through lap 5 with the pace further accelerating.
On lap 6, John Paul De Sousa again rolled to the front. John Paul was just completing the lap when
Kerry Knowler attacked. Kerry looked formidable, easily gaining 10 metres on the bunch before the pack
decided to pursue. However, this was Kerry’s first track ride this season and the pack knew they could
run her down in two laps. That is exactly what happened with the bunch sweeping past Kerry in the back
straight on the final lap. Steve Jones and Conan Liu were leading the bunch and heading to a final sprint.
Steve just pipped Conan at the line with John Paul De Sousa racing in for a comfortable third place.
The B Grade scratch race had 6 riders and was led out by Phil Coulton. The pace varied up and down as
different riders led out. However, the bunch was tight and orderly for 6 laps. Coming into lap 7 there
were several riders poised for an attack. Ed Garnett was first to attack. However, Sarah Stephens and
Ian Drayton were quick to pursue. Sarah caught and passed Ed with about a lap to go and went on for a
clear win. Ian Drayton passed Ed in the final turn to take second. Ed held on for third place.
The evening’s second event was a 2-lap, standing start, time trial. This is quite a tough event as the
second lap sprint really hurts. A grade times were all under 60 seconds with John Paul De Sousa
(54.61s), Conan Liu (54.77s), and Warwick Wilson (56.33s). It seems like Conan Liu is starting to get the
hang of these timed events. Best times in B grade were Sarah Stephens (57.20s), Ed Garnett (58.37s),
and Ian Drayton (60.69s). These are very good times for B grade.
The evening’s racing closed with the usual Italian Pursuit. Both teams had 5 riders and were evenly
matched. Teamwork was first class. The pace was hot and there was never more than a couple of
metres between the teams at each changeover. On the final changeover team 2’s John Paul De Sousa
led by a small margin. On paper, it seemed like Steve Jones would run him down. However, unlike
Steve, John Paul has a few track sessions in the bank. This allowed him to hold off Steve and slightly
increase the margin for a good win to team 2. It was an excellent contest.
Major place getters were as follows:
8-Lap Scratch: (A1 Grade) Steve Jones, Conan Liu, John Paul De Sousa. (A2 Grade) Warwick Wilson,
Kerry Knowler (B Grade) Sarah Stephens, Ian Drayton, Ed Garnett.
2-lap SS TT: (A1 Grade) John Paul De Sousa (54.61s), Conan Liu (54.77s), (A2 Grade) Warwick Wilson
(56.33s), Kerry Knowler (59.76s) (B Grade) Sarah Stephens (57.20s), Ed Garnett (58.37s), Ian Drayton
(60.69s).
Italian Pursuit: Winner Team 2 (John Paul De Sousa, Conan Liu, Kerry Knowler, Ian Drayton, Phil
Coulton).
Season Point Score Update:
Conan Liu (86), John Paul De Sousa (79), Alison Hale (67), Warwick Wilson (61), Graeme O’Neill (54),
Ian Drayton (45), Wayne Benham (39), Phil Coulton (37), Ed Garnett (36), Ben Davis (34), Craig Kentwell
(33), Hamish Anderson (31), Martin Graham (29), Bruce Griffin (27).

Update your membership details

In preparation for the early December announcement of the 2024 annual fees and online renewal, please take a moment to verify that your membership details (email address, emergency contact details) are current and up to date. This information is collated in the national body’s database SportsTG, from which we receive incremental updates to our RMS system. If you are reading this Bleat via email, then it is likely that we have a functional email address for you. To check your membership details go to https://memberdesq.sportstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10244 >Login > Enter your username (which is often a randomly generated string of letters like 0FrWUyp unless you have changed it).  Please contact membership@actvets.cc if you need help finding your username as it is understandable that you may only use it once a year for annual fee renewal.
