RACE REPORT – The Apollo on Saturday 27 April 2024
A Grade – Jason Irwin
A small bunch of only four rolled away for the race. It was very tame heading out toward Mt Tennent before Tristan Dimmock lifted the pace on the back side of the climb cause some small spills in the group before coming back together. Again on the longer side of Mt Tennent Tristan came to the front determined to make it hard before the final climb this time there was the casualty of Rowan McMurray not being able to match the pace.
The next few kms became very tactical as discussions about work and who should be doing started. This enabled Daniel Lekhac to just roll off the front and take a small lead into Honeysuckle (not that he needed it) from this point the long hard climb was a fight for survival with Dan riding away to a comfortable win, with Jason just ahead of Tristan for the minor placings.
C grade – Ed Logue
On a beautiful autumnal afternoon, seven riders in C grade rolled off knowing what was ahead of them.
The group rolled together where Ian Preston drove the pace up the short side of the climb up Mt Tennent where the group lost John Paul De Sousa.
On the return climb of Mt Tennent new club member Phillip Lewington put the hammer down to gap the peloton with the bunch dropping Andrew Remely in pursuit of the leader.
A group of four – Andrew Hislop, David Buckley, Ed Logue and Ian Preston – ride together to the base of the climb with Phillip in the distance. The four have a fifth rider join them with B-grader Greg Harris as the road goes upward.
A split occurs with Ed starting to pull away on the section before the rise to the cattlegrid while Dave and Ian follow each other.
In the end Phillip was too strong to win by 50 seconds ahead of Ed in second with Dave edging Ian for third place and Andrew Hislop in fifth. Kudos to Andrew R and JP for finishing on a course that does not suit them but they were there having “fun”.
D grade – Poupee Lam
Under the radiant sun of a beautiful Saturday, the D Grade peloton embarked on their journey from Apollo Road, each rider bracing themselves for the daunting climb ahead. As the ascent began, Gill Lugg made her move, launching the first attack. Poupee Lam and Tony Sheehan responded swiftly, eager to stay with her pace.
The trio led the charge up the climb, but the race was far from over as the road flattened out, allowing the peloton to regroup. Tension mounted as they approached the daunting 8 km climb to Honeysuckle Creek.
Approaching the challenging ascent, Gill showcased her climbing skills, steadily pulling ahead while her rivals struggled. Despite their efforts, Gill’s lead widened, leaving Poupee Lam to cross the line valiantly, followed closely by Tony Sheehan.
Ed – Special mention to Russell Marston who was the sole E grader where he raced with D and finished with them.
DRAFT CRMMC VOLUNTEER POLICY
CRMCC is a volunteer club. The organisation and running of club events relies entirely on volunteer contributions to the club by its members. The Volunteer Policy seeks to balance the following objectives:
- the safe and efficient running of CRMCC races,
- the need for club members to contribute to the conduct of events in a fair and equitable manner, and
- efficient use of Club finances.
To achieve these objectives, the CRMCC Volunteer Policy introduces or clarifies a number of initiatives to both encourage and incentivise volunteers.
Policy
All club members are expected to volunteer to perform the role of either Race Director, Marshal, ETC or Van Driver at least once per calendar year with the following exceptions:
- new club members (e.g. members for less than 6 months), or
- infrequent race participants (e.g. have not raced for more than 6 months, or
- by individual arrangement with the Race Committee.
Individual volunteer details, including the number of races completed since performing the last volunteer role, will be displayed on individual members’ RMS profiles as ‘REFEREE’.
Members can provide feedback on the proposed policy by emailing secretary@crmcc.org.au by Saturday 1 June 2024. Note this is a DRAFT policy so your thoughts are most wanted.
