UPCOMING RACING
Individual time trial at Lookout Hill on Saturday 15 June from 1330 AEST
Race director: Simon Porombka, Ben Healy ETC, Ed Logue ETC, Jonathan Chowns marshal, Mark Terracini van driver/marshal, Simon Whitehead first aid.
The event will be two laps from Lookout Hill with racers riding 3.5km toward Tharwa, U-turn, 5km toward Point Hut Crossing, U-turn to Lookout Hill for a total of 20km.
The age standard TT is a time trial where the winner is determined by the rider’s time compared with the standard time that has been calculated for the rider’s age. The rider with the largest negative time difference will be crowned age standard champion. Based on previous results, a time around five minutes below the standard is considered very competitive, and achieved by riders who medal at the national or NSW state championships. There are separate age standards for both the men’s and women’s categories.
**As an incentive for riders without TT bikes, there will also be a category for non-TT bikes. To qualify, riders will need to use a bike with standard bars and helmet**.
The M&H Trophy will be up for grabs, which is a perpetual trophy donated by Henry and Marylin Beaverstock. The trophies (one for men and one for women) go to those who beat their age standard time by the greatest amount.
Cost is $10, to register look up the event at https://rms.crmcc.org.au/calendar. Members must wear their CRMCC assigned race number to race.
Late registrations will be assessed by race.committee@crmcc.org.au and if allowed, a late fee of $10 will be applied.
If you are unregistered and show up to the start, you must convince a committee member (not the Race Director) of your club member financial status for insurance purposes, before being allowed to participate.

ROAD RACING SURVEY
Prepared by Simon Costello, Treasurer and Committee Member, 19 March 2024
Key points:
● Respondents were extremely appreciative of the Committee canvassing views of
Members on sustaining a viable road racing series, and acknowledged the difficult
task of the Committee.
● Based on respondents’ perspectives, numbers of participants in road races may be
declining due to a mix of several factors.
– Some factors we have little control over and may just need to react to, such
as weather forcing late cancellations.
– Some factors we have little control over but need to take a long-term look at
how we respond, such as changing demographics, time pressures,
competition with other activities including Zwift.
– Some factors we have a lot of control over, including the design of the race
program, the current cancellation policy, a pathway for late or last minute
entries, safety during races, and how we publicise who races.
● Respondents offered over 100 individual perspectives and ideas to sustain an open
road race program. The largest groups of ideas included the following.
– Consider changes to the design of the road racing program, including
coordination with other clubs and events, maintaining variety, and
considering how best to align with the racing motivators of Members.
– Consider policies to better support race officials, including support for
rostering or ‘mandatory marshalling’.
– Consider review of the cancellation policy.
– Consider entry processes, including discounts for early entry, options for late
entry and on-the-day entry, and not displaying entrants’ names before the
race.
– Consider options for more social events that may support road racing.
● The qualitative responses from the survey could be further supported by analysis of
road racing numbers over time from RMS.
CONSULTATION OF DRAFT VOLUNTEER POLICY
This is the final callout for members to provide their input on the proposed draft policy in relation to volunteering.
CRMCC is a volunteer club. The organisation and running of club events relies entirely on volunteer contributions to the club by its members. The Volunteer Policy seeks to balance the following objectives:
- the safe and efficient running of CRMCC races,
- the need for club members to contribute to the conduct of events in a fair and equitable manner, and
- efficient use of Club finances.
To achieve these objectives, the CRMCC Volunteer Policy introduces or clarifies a number of initiatives to both encourage and incentivise volunteers.
Policy
All club members are expected to volunteer to perform the role of either Race Director, Marshal, ETC or Van Driver at least once per calendar year with the following exceptions:
- new club members (e.g. members for less than 6 months), or
- infrequent race participants (e.g. have not raced for more than 6 months, or
- by individual arrangement with the Race Committee.
Individual volunteer details, including the number of races completed since performing the last volunteer role, will be displayed on individual members’ RMS profiles as ‘REFEREE’.
Members can provide feedback on the proposed policy by emailing secretary@crmcc.org.au. Note this is a DRAFT policy so your thoughts are most wanted.
