FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT

Hi members,

We had a very productive Committee meeting on Monday night.

The committee has been consulting you on our draft volunteer policy and you have one last chance to comment on it. In summary, we will be setting a minimum requirement of volunteering for 1 event per calendar year. We will be trialling this soon from now to the end of 2024, and for the policy to come into full effect upon renewal of your annual membership. Between now and then, we will be working our way through a list of racing members who have yet to volunteer for anything. If you suspect you are on the list, please reach out and contact race.committee@crmcc.org.au, look at our race calendar, and see where you might be able to assist, before we contact you and slot you into some event. Every rider can view their own race results, and their volunteer efforts in the RMS. If you have amassed many races since you last volunteered, then you will be on the top of our call list. Volunteer duties vary in complexity from marshalling, ETC, van driving, and Race Directing. As we develop the functionality of tracking volunteerism within our RMS, you may not be able to register for a race until you have fulfilled your obligations to the club as an exemplary volunteer-citizen.

In expectation of the next criterium season, the committee agreed to implement a season’s criterium pass to cover crit racing from the start of the season Tues 8 Oct 2024 to the beginning of April 2025. We are working on setting the price of this pass, and are evaluating the development needed to implement this in the RMS. This will provide a benefit to club members while lowering administrative overhead for all.

After many years of persistent effort in getting our race approvals through the bureaucratic processes, Chris Short has decided to step down from the committee. We thank Chris for his tireless work, which often is unrecognised and unrewarded because many of these tasks occur behind the scenes. Rob Langridge, our handicapper, is stepping up in the interim to keep this critical function happening for the Club. In the meantime, we have a critical need on our committee for other members who would like to learn about race approvals, and membership work. Please contact me for a role description.

The club’s needs are evolving and we are trying to stay in contact with what you want. Please read and digest the Treasurer’s summary of the survey. The committee is working to address many issues, and we have challenges ahead. That is life.
