URGENT: First Aider Required
We do not currently have a First Aider for tomorrow’s Crit.
Could any qualified club members who are able to fill this role, please contact Alain Arbaut, mobile 0400493148.
If no first aider is present the racing has to be cancelled (in case of an accident the club won’t have any insurance cover).
President’s welcome to 2018
Dear Members,
Welcome to 2018’s racing and welcome to any new members.
The Tuesday Crit series has already started, Track starts this Wednesday and Road Racing resumes in February. If your new years resolution was to come and mix it up with the real talent on the track, just a reminder, we have access to loaner track bikes – just bring your pedals and helmet, and turn up to Narrabundah Velodrome a bit early. I’m also a bit excited to be heading to the South Australian Masters Cycling Association CAMS series in Adelaide next week with a few others from the ACT.
The race Committee has worked hard to prepare an interesting race Calendar for members this year. Along with the usual races we’ve even included a Roubaix event in March which I’m personally looking forward to and the associated choices (e.g. 25 or 28mms?, Tubeless or tubed?).
As you know, the club relies on volunteers to run an occasional race as a Race Director. Race directors for the 2018 season are being assigned but we could always use more to cover vacancies from Race Director that are no longer wanting to run races or those that have left the club. Being a Race Director is not arduous and there is a lot of support from other members of the club. In most cases everything is organised by the Race Committee and all you’ll have to do is to check everything is in readiness a week beforehand and then run the event itself.
As always, keep in touch via the Vets Twitter Account or Facebook page (look up ACT Vets Cycling Club) – you’ll find all sorts of information including any cancellations due to weather etc.
See you on the road/crit circuit or track in 2018!
Regards,
Dougal Torrance,
President,
ACT Veterans Cycling Club.

Cycling holiday in the French Pyrenees, September 6-21, 2018
Its on again?..ACT Veterans cycling trip in the French Pyrenees. Has watching the Tour de France ever inspired you to want to tackle one of the famous mountains of the Pyrenees but you were put off by the cost, lack of companions or knowledge how to go about it? Here’s your chance to participate in carefully planned, graduated and guided bike rides with sag wagon support, with fellow riders from the Vets Cycling Club, all at a very low cost when compared to commercially available tours.
All inclusive cost: ?2,200
This 16-day holiday includes half-board (breakfast and dinner) shared accommodation at a dedicated cycling lodge and selected hotels, pick-up and drop-off at Toulouse or Tarascon sur Ariege. Three cycling rest days are included when we will visit local cultural and scenic tourist attractions. Club handicapper Rob Langridge who participated in the 2013 Vets trip organised by Peter Southgate had the following to say about the experience: “Peter loves the Pyrenees so much that he’s bought a house there! The rides were a mixture of challenging social rides to absolute climbing epics. The atmosphere at the lodge is welcoming and lots of fun. I have many wonderful memories of a great trip and would recommend it to anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and looking for a challenge.”
For further information and to receive a detailed outline of the itinerary contact Peter Southgate peter.southgate@hotmail.com or ph. 0417181052. There will also be an information session for interested parties at a date to be advised.
