Team QOUN Christmas Wheel Race

Tomorrow is the Christmas Wheel Race in conjunction with the Team QUON Event. ENTRY IS FREE.

The top 5 riders from each grade will compete in the wheel race after the heats. Prizes are on offer for first to third. TQ will be conducting 6 BMW Sprint Primes, one for each grade with prizes awarded for the winner of each grade.

TQ and the Club are putting on nibbles, wine (thanks to Nick Spencer Wines) and beers (thanks to Young Henry’s). Help us celebrate the first half of the year and the holiday period. So bring yourself, your teammates and your friends and family for what should be a good night of racing and socialising.

There will also be medal presentations for the 2018/19 Summer and 2019 Winter seasons.

Registration Renewal for 2020

2020 membership renewals are due by 31 December 2019 to ensure that you are covered by insurance from 1 January 2020. To renew, go to https://memberdesq.sportstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10244 or follow the prompts via our website www.actvets.cc. Click on the Login link and enter your username and password from last year. If you have forgotten your username and/or password, go to the tab at the top right hand side of the screen and click on ‘Username & Password’ – then enter your email address as requested in the box that will appear. SportsTG will then forward you the information.

It is preferable to renew prior to the end of December if you intend to race in 2020. Before each race, a check has to be done of all those registered to race to ensure they are financial members and covered by insurance. As a courtesy to those committee members who work hard to ensure the club complies with the terms of our insurance cover and also produce the race results, please renew your membership at least 2 days prior to racing. Membership costs are:
– A full competitive membership for 2020 is $125
– Non-competitive membership for 2020 is $5

Upon renewal, your 2020 licence will be emailed to you direct from SportsTG. Please print out a copy and it is suggested that you laminate it or place it in plastic for future reference during the year ahead. You will need to show this licence if you enter events run by other Veteran Cycling Clubs or the AVCC.

Please ensure that your personal particulars are always kept up to date, in particular your emergency contact details. For those members with First Aid qualifications please also update the site. It is a member’s responsibility to keep these details updated via the SportsTG website.

Club members are expected to contribute to the running of the club and its events as specified in the Race Officiation Obligations.

New RMS

The update of RMS, which works better on mobile devices, has been implemented. Bookmarks to the old RMS no longer work. You need to follow the updated links to the Race Calendar and Results from our home page at actvets.cc.

Upcoming Race Officials Roster

With the implementation of the new Race Calendar, the publication of the upcoming Race Officials Roster in the weekly Bleat will be discontinued.

Rostered race directors AND MARSHALS are shown against each race.

Please check the calendar (http://rms.actvets.cc/calendar). If your name is followed by TBC (To Be Confirmed) you need to contact the race committee (race.committee@actvets.cc) as soon as possible to either confirm your attendance or to request a swap.

Empty race directors and marshal positions are denoted as Vacant. Some marshals for races in the ACT need to be Events Traffic Controllers (ETC) and appear as Vacant ETC.

Please review the vacancies for upcoming races and email the race committee with events you would like to help out at, rather than wait and be asked to help at a race you wanted to do. Races cannot happen without members contributing to make them happen.

RACE REPORTS:

Track Racing – 11th December

The final track racing session for this year was on Wednesday 11 December. Unfortunately, the session occurred during a period when bushfire smoke engulfed Canberra and several cycle racing events were cancelled. This must have put riders off, as the track event could only muster 6 riders for the evening.

With the low attendance, only the Christmas Wheel race and an 8-lap scratch race were undertaken, after which the riders and spectators settled into drinks and nibbles to celebrate the upcoming Christmas period. Results for the two races are listed below. Congratulations to James Newhouse for taking the Christmas Wheel race trophy with an excellent ride. Despite the low numbers, this was a close fought event. John Paul De Sousa’s ride from the scratch mark to take second place was also impressive.

Because of the low turnout and the impact of bushfires, it was decided that the session would not be included in the season point scoring, which remains the same as previously reported. Merry Christmas to all track riders and other club members. Track racing is scheduled to recommence in the new year on 8 January. We are hoping for the normal turnout to resume for that session.

Place getters for this session were as follows:
Christmas Wheel Race (6 lap handicap): James Newhouse, John Paul De Sousa, Ross Scutts, Phil Coulton, Steve Hirsler, Graeme O’Neill.
8-Lap Scratch: (A & B Grades): John Paul De Sousa, Phil Coulton, Ross Scutts, Steve Hirsler, Graeme O’Neill.

Season Point Score Update:
Hamish Anderson (107),Ross Scutts (107), Martin Graham (96), Warwick Wilson (92), Tony Beasley (84). Phil Anderson (84), James Newhouse (80), John Paul De Sousa (78), Michael Langdon (73).
