A thousand miles away…
While Canberrans were shivering through a late winter weekend a couple of members were two thousand
kilometers north contesting the Australian Sprint Duathlon Championships in Townsville.
The Canberra locals suffered in the north Queensland heat with the run-ride-run race starting at 2pm in 30 degrees and baking sun. Craig Lindenmayer finished in 8th place in M45-49. Darren Blackhurst finished 4th in M55-59, automatically qualifying him for the Australian team at the 2024 Multisport World Championships. The twisty street circuit favoured the crit race regulars who loved ripping through the corners and roundabouts.

Format: Iron Mike Classic Race
Race start and finish on Uriarra Road at SFP western car park.
Race goes past the homestead to end of bitumen and return.
NOTE: riders are NOT to attack on the descents onto Uriarra crossing on either the outward or return legs.

Safer cycling
The Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) at the University of Adelaide is undertaking a survey on “Cyclist travel and crash experiences in the Australian Capital Territory”.
Funded by the ACT Road Safety Fund, CASR is seeking cyclists over the age of 18 to complete the survey, which will take around 20-30 minutes. The results of the surveys will be compiled and analysed to identify how cycling travel and safety in the ACT can be improved.

Subject to approvals from NSW and ACT governments, the dates have changed for the following events:
| Saturday, August 26 | Iron Mike Moved from August 19 as the AusCycling ACT RR championship is being held that morning on the same course. |
| Sunday, October 15 | The 2023 Gunning (aka Peter McLennan Memorial) event. Start/Finish at Bredalbane, using the community hall as race central Consists of a TT event followed by the usual 48km lap – once or twice depending on your grade. The handicapper is considering letting D grade vote on their lap count… The single day approach facilitates (i) the ability to attract potential 2024 members though the use of the single day trial licence, and (ii) reduces event costs hiring NSW traffic controllers. |
The dates of the NSW and ACT AusCycling events were not available at the time the Calendar was submitted to the ACT government for approval in 2022.
