Life Membership
Guidelines
Life membership is an honour bestowed on individual Capital Region Masters Cycling Club members whose exceptional, loyal and outstanding service and contribution has provided a measurable benefit to the Club over an extended period. It should be considered as the highest recognition that can be awarded to a member in acknowledgement of exceptional service and contribution; it should retain its prestige and not be awarded easily.
The current CRMCC policy is that we recognise the contributions of the long serving members through the awarding of life memberships.
Current Life Members
- Graham Hendrie – Long-term van manager and results coordinator
- Bill Frost – Long-term club president and trailer manager
- Roy Bloomfield – Founding committee member and long-term treasurer
- Henry Beaverstock – Founding committee member and long-term race official
- Life membership nominations awaiting 2025 AGM ratification: 3
Life Membership Nomination Process
Nomination
a) Any member of the club (life, committee, general member of official member) can nominate another member for a Life Membership.
b) Nominations should include the nominator’s reasons for putting forward the nominee and should set out the achievements and activities of the nominee and must show that the award criteria, as set out below, are met.
c) Nominations should be forwarded via email to committee@crmcc.org.au at least 14 days prior to the club’s AGM.
d) Once having received a nomination, a simple majority of a quorum of the committee is sufficient for the nomination to be approved.
e) If an existing Committee member is the nominee, that person must be disqualified from any deliberation on the nomination.
f) In the event that the committee believes that the nominee is worthy of life membership, the committee will present the nomination to the AGM for ratification.
g) In the event that the committee believes that the nominee is not worthy at this stage of life membership, the committee will inform the nominators and they can decide whether or not to proceed with the nomination at the AGM.
h) The nominated member may be elected a life member of the club on receiving a majority vote of over 75% in favour of the motion at the AGM.
i) The voting at this meeting will be by secret ballot.
Criteria
To assist with the nomination, some or all the following criteria should be considered.
For any of the relevant criteria, the nominee should have demonstrated an exceptional contribution,
beyond the ordinary for an extended period, which has a measurable benefit to the club and
membership.
a) Minimum of 15 years of club membership.
b) Minimum of 10 years in specific roles that contribute to the benefit of the club. These roles may include, service on committees, fund raising activities, all aspects of conducting races, coaching or any activities that promote and benefit the club and/or the sport of cycling.
c) Regular participation in club events.
d) Demonstrated attitude and demeanour that reflects dedication to the values of the club including good sportsmanship club events.
e) Other specific achievement may be taken into account.
Life Member’s responsibilities
In accepting a Life Membership, this is managed at the local level by CRMCC and not at the national AVCC level. Therefore, the Life Member must renew their membership annually through the AVCC portal (like any other member, including the club component if applicable). The life member will have their annual membership reimbursed by the club for each year the recipient remains a member as a competitor or official commencing from the year it is awarded. The Life Member’s name will be listed here on this website (unless otherwise instructed).
Special Notes
- Life membership is not automatically given to a spouse. A spouse must be nominated in their own right.
- All nominations should be treated with the strictest of confidence until such time as being presented for ratification at a general meeting.
- Following the awarding of life membership at the AGM, the club will announce via the club’s newsletter and website the name of the recipient and their achievements.
