General Meeting 13 May 2025

The Committee is calling a General Meeting to seek Members’ agreement to make two sets of amendments to our Constitution, to:

– cover required updates in line with updated ATO regulations; and

– formally allow for online pre-meeting voting.

Recent changes to ATO regulations and the ACT Government’s regulations for incorporated associations such as ours, means that our Constitution requires an update in order for us to maintain our tax-free exemption and keep our running costs as low as possible.

The updated requirement is for our Constitution to explicitly state that the CRMCC is not permitted to distribute any surplus, income or assets to CRMCC members. This requirement follows what is already mirrored in clauses of the Australian Veterans Cycling Council’s constitution, to which we ascribe, where it states that “the Association is not permitted to distribute any surplus, income or assets directly or indirectly to its members”.

The Committee has received urgent advice from our recently-completed annual report review, and from the ATO, to have these changes in place before 30 June this year.

The details for the General Meeting are as follows:

Tuesday, May 13 · 7:00 – 7:30pm

Pre-meeting voting survey

You may register your response to the Constitutional amendments by online voting, provided that we will get enough ‘online’ votes to pass the reforms to allow pre-meeting anonymous voting.

We are trialling the option of pre-meeting voting as a test for Special Resolution 2. You can choose to complete this survey ahead of the General Meeting, and submit your response to the Secretary. Your response will be considered assuming that Special Resolution 2 is accepted in-meeting.

The survey can be accessed at the General Meeting Special Resolutions pre-meet survey. Your vote in this survey remains anonymous.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

Sutton Super Series

Six races will be held over the winter season at the Sutton Road Training Centre, with riders accumulating the points gained as per the list :

1st 10 points

2nd 8 points

3rd 6 points

4th 4 points

5th 3 points

6th+ 2 points

This scoring system differs from the RMS. 10 points will still be awarded to the winner even if only one rider starts the race.

Riders with the most points accumulated at the end of the series will be crowned grand champions for their grade.

Here are the main rules:

  1. The final round will be worth double points and riders that participate in all races will get a bonus 12 points.
  2. Prizes such as gift vouchers will be presented after the final race for first, second and third places.
  3. Riders must compete in the final race to receive a prize and be present at the prize ceremony.
  4. Riders who are promoted will take half their points with them to the higher grade.
  5. Point scores will be kept for each grade and updated after each round.
  6. If more than one rider finishes with the same final score, a count-back of the overall results will determine the higher place getter.
  7. The races may not all be scratch races, with a points race as another option.

Riders intending to compete in the series should make themselves familiar with all the rules.  Any feedback will be welcome prior to the first race but it won’t be possible to make changes to the format after that.

Race Report – Age Standard Individual Time Trial 10 May 2025

Whilst clouds of doubt still linger over the election result in Bean, there were no clouds in the skies over Lookout Hill nor any doubt that the 12 time triallists starting at the Club’s annual age-standard time trial were campaigning for glory!

This time trial is a little different from standard time trials, with the winner taking the trophy if they have the fastest time differential from the expected time for their age group, compared to all other races on the day. We also identify separate winners for aero and non-aero bikes.

In the aero category, Steve Crispin took out honours for mens, clocking ~5:30 seconds faster than the Club’s age-standard, and also completing the ~20km in 28:08. Anthony Murfett recovered from a near-miss with a passing P-plater to take out second, followed by Brendan Byatt in third. The first 8 mens’ racers all finished the race faster than the standard for their age group. Mark Cantrill edged out Ian Preston for the non-aero racers.

Shirley-Anne Taylor took the women’s trophy over Katie Gregory in an amazing sprint finish up the steep northern face of Lookout Hill. Katie recorded the fastest overall women’s time at 38:42, with both using aero gear.

I’m grateful to Allan Bontjer, Dave Buckley, Ed Logue and Ben Healy for volunteering their time to run the race as marshal, van driver and ETCs respectively. I was very happy to volunteer my time to direct this race and will now consider what my next n+1 bike might look like :). Ian Hutching’s incredible photos show the grit and the pain on several racers’ faces, particularly at the finish line – thanks Ian!

Cheers

Simon Costello
