From the Desk of the President
On the run into the silly season, things are getting hectic so I wanted to inform the membership about what is happening at CRMCC GHQ.
- We have been trying to get approvals to run the club’s most popular road race at the gravel pit, Shingle Hill to Lake George on 30 November, and we are uncertain if we will receive it in time. We have scheduled SDTC as a back up. Please keep a watch out. If anything changes we will advise you.
- With our much anticipated return to racing on courses in NSW, this has required a lot of extra coordination by current and former committee members behind the scenes, due to compliance documentation that had lapsed and that we needed to update, and then we needed to consult with the Yass Council and the Hume Command of NSW Police.
- One of the complexities is that our revised NSW traffic plans require us to have 2 traffic controllers at each turn, to control the traffic in both directions. This should in theory make turns much safer, but this also doubles our requirement for NSW-trained traffic controllers, and we only have 5 in our membership.
- To increase our NSW trained volunteer traffic control workforce, the Club would like to offer to train existing ACT certified ETC by enrolling them in a 1.5 day course run in Queanbeyan by the Masters Builders Association on the working days 17-18 Feb 2026, https://mba.org.au/course/implement-traffic-control-guidance-plans-3/
- We have already put 5 members through this course, but we need to widen our pool. If you are able to make this commitment at our cost, please contact committee@crmcc.org.au and we can get you started on the enrolment paperwork.
- In preparation for some road racing, we would like to hear from any members who can loan us at least 2 Garmin InReach devices so that we can trial communications with the aim of replacing our outdated satellite phones and hand held radios.
- For our criteriums, please keep in mind that we are volunteers and not professional event implementers. Please consider how you can make our job easier by registering on time, arrive on time (preferably before entry chute procedures), sign-on, line up according to your grade, in numerical order, and listen out for your name and number to be called out. We encourage you to bring and display your best behaviour and sportsperson like conduct.

Race Report – Stromlo Crits – 11 November 2025
A Grade.
A grade started at a steady pace with the group all together. A two-rider breakaway formed
after five laps. The chasing group made some progress in trying to real them in, however it
was to no avail as the riders managed to hold the gap to the finish. Jason Irwin took the win
with Ben Morrison second and Matt Darling third.
B Grade
B grade remained bunched up until the 16-minute mark, with Kim Pederson and Darren
Blackhurst attacking and forming a 2-person breakaway. The peloton reeled them in by the
12-minute mark. This attack was too much effort, and Mark Terracini took the win with Bruce
Goodfellow second and Paul Scherl third.
C Grade
The C grade had the largest field with 23 riders. The riders were soon spread out over the
entire length of the course. At the end, it was a sprint to finish with James Patterson just
holding out a fast-finishing Shirly Ann Taylor with Charles black third.
D Grade
As there was only 1 E grader, Robert Langridge elected to ride with D grade. At the 16-
minute mark, Ian Morton looked certain to retire with a flat on the front wheel; however, Alan
Bontjer offered his front wheel to Ian, and in an effort worthy of a F1 pit crew, Ian was back in
the race, losing only half a lap. In fading light, Roger Wheatly took the win from Dale
Kleeman, second and Kevin Newhouse third.
E Grade
Robert Langridge elected to ride with D grade and took the E grade win by default.
Thanks to Stephen Isbel for his assistance as a marshal and Matthew Sainsbery for first aid
support.
