Race Report – Stromlo Crits – 18 November 2025

With a solid breeze coming out of the North West, B Grade rode away in what was the best race of the night.  Krusty Bryant made a solo break from the start with the peloton enjoying the sight of him struggling to break through the headwind on both rises.  Kim Pederson took charge of the peloton and with some friends brought Krusty back.  What followed was a series of breaks, each one working hard into the headwind.  Blake Fretwell, Christophe Barberet, Andrew McCosker, Gareth Downey and Chris Williams gradually took control of the peloton with small breaks getting clear and being absorbed.  The peloton eventually splintered into 3 groups with a lead group of Andrew McCosker, Paul Scherl and Gareth Downey going away for the longest break of the night.  Kim Pederson worked with Christophe Barberet to bridge into a final selection of 4 riders with Adrian Harris managing to go solo from the re-formed peloton to take 5th place.  In the final sprint Andrew McCosker edged out Gareth Downey with Kim taking 3rd.

D Grade was a sombre affair with the headwind discouraging a break amongst the 9 riders.  One finally formed and with Dale Kleeman explaining to is breakaway companions why staying in the gutter wasn’t going to help them get away, it was eventually absorbed.  6 finished the bunch sprint with Dale taking the win followed by Kevin Newhouse and Alex Sommariva.  E grade comprised 2 riders (bring on the re-grading).  Chris Copeland made a break and was nearly a lap ahead of Mick Donaldson who had a pleasant night riding around with Tim Moore from D Grade.

C Grade was a tight affair led off by an awesome and long break comprising James Patterson, Mick Hanbury and Ian Preston. They worked hard to stay away for keeping a 30-40 second gap on the peloton until James Patterson attacked his breakaway companions which took the impetus out of the break.  After 20 minutes the breakaway was eventually caught.  Going into the final lap the peloton was together.  IN the final sprint Andrew Remely took the win followed by James Patterson and Ben McMahon.   As a final note there was some very aggressive riding going into the lap with a couple of riders cutting in front of others at collarbone corner.  We ask that riders just keep your line and do not cut in.

A Grade  was the largest group of the night with 22 riders contesting a cracking race.  Tristan Dimmock made the first solo break and was brought back by the peloton.  After a frenetic period of breaks that were brought back by a vigilant peloton a select group Steve Crispin, Adam Rohweder, Ayden Toovey and Jason Irwin made the longest break of the night staying away for over 15 minutes until they were joined by Ben Morrison, Kris McCreath and Jeremy Gillman-Wells.  On the final lap Steve Crispin attacked on collarbone corner to string out the final group of 4.  Ben Morrison powered away to take the win from Steve with Jeremey taking bronze.
