Unfortunately we were unable to get sufficient numbers to be able to run the next ETC training course so we have had to cancel.
New training arrangements are being investigated by the Committee.

Saturday, 24th July – Smiths Rd – Naas Rd – Secret Handicap
Reminder: All riders must pre-register on the ACT Vets website (https://rms.actvets.cc/calendar) by 16/07/2021 6:00 PM prior to the race. There is no registration on the day.
Any requests for Grade changes should be sorted out with the Handicapper prior to registration.
Where: South of Tharwa. Members to park on the side of Smiths Rd and start just around the corner on Naas Rd.
When: 1:30 pm.

Course is over Mt Tennant spur to Apollo Road and return. 2 Laps

RACE REPORT:
Lookout Hill – 17th July
With a miserable weather forecast I was expecting a small turnout, but Saturday provided sunny and dry conditions, and 21 riders took on this weeks handicap at Lookout Hill. It was still cold and windy, and I was expecting conditions to favour the stronger riders.
However the handicapper had set his own conditions, and provided what would turn out to be very favourable gaps between the grades. F grade commenced proceedings with Polly Templeton showing everyone how to ride solo into a raging wind. E grade followed 7 minutes later, with D grade off 17 minutes and C grade off 21 minutes. I had grave doubts for the 2 riders in B grade off 24 minutes, and thought the A grade machine would scoop everyone up despite being off 30 minutes.
Most grades proved the value of sticking together, and despite small gains each lap, it was clear that the gaps were too much to bring everyone together on the tough course. In the end E grade just pipped Polly on the last lap, and Alan Bontjer ‘sprinted’ to the line for a hard earned win over fellow graders Elizabeth Lowe and Rosemary Robinson.
D grade finished next, with Lance Pardon and Rob Langridge rounding out the top five. Full results (sans times) on the RMS.
Notable mention to Christoffer Barberet for convincing the handicapper to slide him from A1 to A2, only to succumb to the pressure for A1 and A2 to combine. This gave A1 a great launchpad, and the Tiffen train discard the A2 crew on lap one!
Thanks go to Paul Welsh and Conan Liu on ETC duties, Simon Whitehead on first aid, Michael Hanbury for general marshalling, and to Ben McDuff for driving the van and recording finishes. Thanks also to Ian McVay and the Race Committee for making the race so easy to run, with excellent race documentation and timely approvals.
