Stromlo Mini Tour- Crit morning plus Graded Scratch Race afternoon
Sunday 3 Sept 9.00am – Race Marshals needed – Race Director, 4 x ETCs and Van Driver
Stromlo Mini Tour — Road race stage to be replaced if entries less than 30 The Stromlo Mini-Tour is scheduled for this Sunday starting at 0900. Everyone to ride in their road grade. It will start with a timed 30-minute criterium with time bonuses for the top three finishers. This will be followed by a 70km road race from the Iron Mike start to the Homestead short turn and back twice for A, B and C grades, and a 35km lap for D and E. The rider with the lowest time for the two events will be determined the winner. However if entries don’t reach 30 riders, the road race will be cancelled. Instead, a second event will be held on the Stromlo circuit: either a timed hot lap or elimination criterium depending on rider preferences. These events will be points based. Race committee |

Race Report – Iron Mike
Warm weather, clear skies, anyone would think Spring had arrived.
23 Riders signed up for the annual Iron Mike handicap of 50km along Uriarra Rd and Brindabella Rd to the end of the bitumen and return.
The finish was a closely fought sprint between a group of three riders. At the finish Marc Vroomans beat out Christopher van der Spek with Tristan Fuge coming in third place.
The rest of the field was spread out in ones and twos across the line.
There was a fair bit of traffic on the road, including a massed motorcycle ride, but there were no reports of incidents, so looks like all the motorists were behaving themselves.
Many thanks to the marshals Craig Lindenmayer, Howard Moffat , Sue Powell , Darren Blackhurst and Paul Welsh with thanks to Simon Whitehead for First Aid services which thankfully weren’t required.
Ian Morton – Race Director
Racing Calendar changes – please see below
Subject to approvals from NSW and ACT governments, the dates have changed for the following events:
Sunday, October 15 | The 2023 Gunning (aka Peter McLennan Memorial) event. Start/Finish at Bredalbane, using the community hall as race central Consists of a TT event followed by the usual 48km lap – once or twice depending on your grade. The handicapper is considering letting D grade vote on their lap count… The single day approach facilitates (i) the ability to attract potential 2024 members though the use of the single day trial licence, and (ii) reduces event costs hiring NSW traffic controllers. |
The dates of the NSW and ACT AusCycling events were not available at the time the Calendar was submitted to the ACT government for approval in 2022.
