From the Desk of the President
I am pleased to announce, that as part of enacting our volunteer policy in 2025, whereby members must volunteer their time for at least one event per calendar year, we have been able to implement a race credit system in your membership record. This will appear publically in your race record, along with your volunteer statistics.
This means, that in addition to offering an honorarium from the Club for certain roles (Race Director, van driver, ETC), all race volunteers will automatically receive a race credit. Using the example of Mark Vardy at Saturday’s Uriarra Homestead Handicap race, he not only drove the van, but also directed the race, and he will receive 2 race credits, as he performed two functions (both with distinction). We thank Ben Healy who has been the coding mastermind behind all of this development work, and members with race credits can choose on which event to spend them. We will retrospectively activate these credits for you back to any race volunteering from 1 January 2025.
An extension to the race credit system, is the “no excuses DNS.”
We have all been in the situation when either the night before, or on race day, you’re not feeling your best, or perhaps it’s because you’ve got a list of jobs to do, and cannot get away to race, yet you’ve paid your $10 registration fee. If you ‘Do Not Start’, we will automatically credit you so that you can use it at an event of your choosing. You do not need to let us know in advance of your DNS. We hope this encourages riders to register early and not leave it until the last minute before registration cut-off.
The committee met again tonight and we are working hard towards implementing good value racing with our limited resources. We hope to see many of you at our next road race at Mt Tennent on 14 June, or perhaps at the next Sutton Driver’s Training Centre kermesse on 28 June. We’re working on bringing the SDTC start times forward due to the kangaroo risks, so stay tuned.

Sutton Super Series
Six races will be held over the winter season at the Sutton Road Training Centre, with riders accumulating the points gained as per the list :
1st 10 points
2nd 8 points
3rd 6 points
4th 4 points
5th 3 points
6th+ 2 points
This scoring system differs from the RMS. 10 points will still be awarded to the winner even if only one rider starts the race.
Riders with the most points accumulated at the end of the series will be crowned grand champions for their grade.
Here are the main rules:
- The final round will be worth double points and riders that participate in all races will get a bonus 12 points.
- Prizes such as gift vouchers will be presented after the final race for first, second and third places.
- Riders must compete in the final race to receive a prize and be present at the prize ceremony.
- Riders who are promoted will take half their points with them to the higher grade.
- Point scores will be kept for each grade and updated after each round.
- If more than one rider finishes with the same final score, a count-back of the overall results will determine the higher place getter.
- The races may not all be scratch races, with a points race as another option.
Riders intending to compete in the series should make themselves familiar with all the rules. Any feedback will be welcome prior to the first race but it won’t be possible to make changes to the format after that.
Uriarra Homestead Handicap Race Report 31 May
A great warm afternoon with clear skies and minimal breeze greeted the 24 riders in the Uriarra Homestead handicap covering 45km over 3 laps of the deceptively difficult course.
Polly Templeton headed off as the sole rider in F grade and maintained a lead over the first and second laps, until succumbing to the chasing D grade group on the last lap – a great effort riding solo!
D grade had a solid 8 minutes start over C grade and managed to hold onto 5 minutes after the first lap, 2 minutes after 2 laps, before the last couple of riders being reeled in by James Watt from C grade a couple of hundred metres from the finish. Josh Quilliam finished a very credible 2nd with his first race in 8 years. Mick Hanbury hadn’t been able to convince the Race Director to change the direction of the race, and clearly spent too much time trying to engineer the result, neglecting a warm up and was consequently dropped early in the race, taking on the role of Lanterne Rouge……
B grade riders hadn’t been able to completely reel in their 30 minute handicap but were credibly lead over the line by Christophe Barberet a couple of minutes after James Watt had taken the win.
Thank you to the marshals/ETC’s (Darren, Neil, Rob, Michael and Daniel, and Ryan on first aid. A great job of handicapping from Rob made for an interesting race!
