Masters doing Masters things
Firstly, a big congratulations to all of the Masters who recently competed at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Lorne, the Bowral Classic, the Wollongong World Triathlon Championships, the UCI Masters Track Championships in Roubaix or the UCI Gravel World Championships in the Netherlands. Yes, we had members who competed in each one of these events over the past fortnight.
Volunteering
Our revised volunteering and race credit system appears to be working, as we have seen an increase in offers of help. As we cannot keep up with demand, and there is just David Buckley and myself who schedule volunteers in the calendar outside of our normal work hours, we are going open this up to volunteer self-service, where you put your name down against those roles marked ‘Vacant’ in this Google spreadsheet.
We will then transfer these roles in to our RMS calendar. This will hopefully train members to sign up to their own events , and we hope to roll out this functionality to our RMS calendar next year, just as how one might register for races as a rider.
NSW Road races
We hope to be able to announce soon, the addition of some popular road races to our calendar before the end of the year, including the gravel pit. We have been working hard in the background getting the approvals and getting the documentation in place with the NSW Council. We are very close.
Communicating to the Committee, race registration, or requesting committee assistance
Please don’t leave race registration until the last minute. Please do not contact myself or other committee members via messenger, or SMS. Instead, please be respectful that we also are volunteers, have a life outside of CRMCC, and use committee@crmcc.org.au to communicate and conduct club business, and not our own personal email addresses or contact details.
Also, please check your spam filters, as you may have received an email or response from one our committee email addresses re: committee business.
Kangaroo fence at SFP from 22 October 2025
We have been advised by SFP management that a kangaroo fence will be erected from 22 October 2025. It will be smaller in length and not span the same distance as last year’s fence. We can expect it to be operational for our purposes from 28 October 2025.
Committee positions to be declared open at next AGM early Feb 2026
As in previous years, all committee positions will be declared open at the next AGM in early Feb, and we expect multiple vacancies for various roles. We need more members to help with the committee to keep it going, as we are understaffed, and 3 of us are performing multiple roles.
Lastly, we wish Ryan Fawke all the best in his recovery from a shoulder injury and he’ll sit it out from First Aid duties until he has recuperated. Matthew Sainsbury will be filling in for Ryan’s first aid shifts instead.
Next Race – Crits at Stromlo Forest Park – Tuesday 21 October 2025

Please note, 5:40PM also holds the Women’s specific criterium grade (20mins) to foster participation and confidence in riding on the Stromlo Forest Park criterium track. Perfect for women and non-binary riders who are looking for an introductory ride or those that prefer cycling in a smaller group.
Race registration cut-off is 12:40pm. Cost is $10.
You need to register by looking up the calendar entry in the RMS https://rms.crmcc.org.au/calendar
You must wear your CRMCC assigned race number to race.
Late registrations will be assessed by committee@crmcc.org.au and if allowed, a late fee of $10 will be applied.
If you are unregistered and show up to the crit track, you must convince a committee member (not the Race Director) of your club member financial status for insurance purposes, before being allowed to participate.
All riders are required to sign on before their race start.
We will be running an entry chute, where riders are called 1 by 1 onto the circuit in numerical order of sign-on.
Reduced Price Membership
Now available, reduced priced racing membership of $99 (same price as last year) for those new or renewing members wishing to join us financially for racing up to and including the Christmas criterium wheel race qualifier on 16 December 2025, or the equivalent track wheel race on 18 December 2025.
NARRABUNDAH TRACK RACING – THURSDAY 23 OCTOBER, 5.30 PM
The Program for Thursday is as follows:
5.30pm – 6.00pm: Warm-up and free practice.

Spare Track Bikes

own pedals. You may need to pump up tyres (we will have a pump available) and adjust saddle / bar
position. You will need to check over the bike for safety purposes. Although we will assist as far as
practical, equipment safety and providing tools for fitting / adjustments is your responsibility.
Attendance
Please register your attendance at https://rms.crmcc.org.au/calendar?5021932
Each race will cost $10, or purchase the season track pass at $80. The season track pass is good value
as there are normally around 17 race sessions per season.
Race Report – Stromlo Crits – 14 October 2025
The second week of the club’s 2025/26 summer criterium series was held in good
conditions with a few of our members using the evening as a tune-up for events later
in that week including the World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong and the
Gran Fondo World Championships in Lorne.
D and E started the night with both grades rolling off together before half a lap in E
went off the back at their pace.
Kevin Newhouse and David Gunther kept the pace rolling at the front of the D grade
for most of the race’s 23 minutes before Eddie Humeniuk took off up the back
straight on the penultimate anti-clockwise lap. Eddie gained a decent lead but was
caught at the top of the final turn by the peloton with Kevin too strong in the sprint
against a fast finishing David in second and Elizabeth Lowe in third.
In E grade Chris Copeland was too fast for Rico Fitch in the final straight.
Next were A and C grade.
A Grade started rolling turns before Marc Vroomans was off the front after two laps.
Marc was subsequently reeled back by Kris McGreath, Jeremy Gillman-Wells and
Ben Morrison. Ben was then off the front after the fourth lap with Tristan Dimmock
chasing him, where those two created a nine seconds gap after ten minutes. Kris,
along with Matt Darling and John Forrest then broke from the peloton to bridge to the
two leaders.
With around ten minutes left in A the front five were working together to keep the
peloton at a safe distance.
Gillman-Wells was on the front of the peloton trying to reel in the leaders but second
group syndrome appeared to have formed while the leaders had a 14 seconds gap
with seven minutes of the race left.
By the bell lap for A, Tristan had been dropped with Ben too strong in the sprint
ahead of Kris, Matt and John.
C grade rolled off with Ian Preston disregarding his wife’s advice of not being on the
front for the first lap. Ben Healy then took up the pace for the second lap before C
grade decided to chill for a few laps.
Mick Hanbury then did his Tim Declercq impersonation by doing the tractor work at
the front of C for a period and no one wanting to follow his lead.
On the bell Healy surged with new rider Luke Cartwright, Marek Bilski and Wes
Pendlebury following Ben’s move. Luke won the sprint (hello handicapper) with Wes
second and Marek third.
B rolled off in the best conditions of the night as the westerly wind had eased. Krusty
Bryant and Andrew McCosker were off the front early with a five seconds gap.
They maintained that lead for a few laps with Simon Costello, Craig Lindenmayer
and Bruce Goodfellow taking turns in trying to draw back the two leaders.
Christophe Barberet attacked the peloton to join Andrew and Krusty for a three-rider
lead group.
The wheels fell off the leading three with around 12 minutes left as the peloton swept
them up.
Three minutes before the final two laps saw Chris Williams put in a dig with Krusty in
pursuit before the peloton were all together
Up the back straight of the final lap Paul Scherl made a move with Ben McDuff
following him to brace the wind for the first time in the race and Craig behind them at
the final turn into the finishing straight.
Lindenmayer showing all his training ahead of his duel world champs week to beat
McDuff with Goodfellow in third.
Many thanks to Lance Purdon for marshalling duties, Ryan Fawke for first aid,
Michael Fawke keeping the roos at bay and Ian Hutchings for his pics and making
the before/after work of the races much smoother.

Upcoming races needing volunteers
We have multiple vacancies for race directors for SFP crits.
Please self-register as a volunteer, where you can put your name down against those roles marked ‘Vacant’ in this Google spreadsheet. We will follow-up and confirm your volunteering with an email from committee@crmcc.org.au
Thank you to those members who have offered their services to fill roles so our races can run.
