Race Numbers
All members are required to wear race numbers during the event to ensure that the race officials can identify riders, particularly during events like points races.
Access to temporary numbers is available at events if you forget to bring your number.
Riders can request a new race number by emailing membership@actvets.cc
Registration for 2023
The National Body is yet to confirm the Insurance costs for next year but at this stage it appears there will be no increase. The Committee voted to not charge any additional fees so this will result in no increase in Membership fees from that imposed by the AVCC. Note the majority of clubs do charge an annual fee at the local level, making us one of the most affordable Cycling Clubs in Australia!
We will advise once Registration for next year is open.

RACE REPORTS:
Track Racing – 8th December
Thursday 8 December saw the eighth track racing session for the 2022-23 season. The weather was cool with a slight headwind in the back straight during the warm-up. The slight wind eventually faded to a still evening. Not the expected summer weather, though it was quite satisfactory for racing. Attendance was slightly below par, with 11 riders, 6 in A grade and 5 in B grade.
A Grade Scratch (8 laps)
The A grade scratch was hotly contested. John Paul De Sousa led out at a good pace and relinquished the lead in half a lap. This seemed to set a precedent for half lap turns as Steve Jones, Tim Jolly, Warwick Wilson and Wayne Benham rolled through at pace. On lap 4 John Paul De Sousa again rolled to the front. As he handed off, Conan Liu accelerated out spreading the field. Conan held the front position for two and a half laps, putting pressure on the bunch with solid pace. However, Steve Jones, Tim Jolly and John Paul De Sousa and the following bunch were now in hot pursuit. As the bell lap approached Tim Jolly and Steve Jones surged past Conan to jink it out for the win. Ultimately Tim held out Steve for a close win with Conan hanging on for third place.
B Grade Scratch (8 laps)
B Grade started off sedately with 1 lap turns – no wind – so why so slow? Alison Hale kept a measured aerodynamic pace – (perhaps due to resting up for the QLD Masters Track Champi-onships on the weekend). James Newhouse picked up the pace on lap 5 with Graeme O’Neill sticking tight to his wheel. Alison took high to the track just preceding the bell, in order to at-tack James Newhouse – indeed the plan worked, and James was only just beaten by a wheel rim in the final sprint. 1st Alison Hale, 2nd James Newhouse and 3rd Mark Canaider.
1-Lap Screamer
The second event was the so-called ‘Screamer’, a flat out 1-lap time trial from a flying start. This is a highly technical event, needing a high pace through the entry turn and solid acceleration down the banking to the start line. Then it’s a matter of holding flat out pace for 1 lap – exhausting! The quicker riders do the lap at around 60 km/hr.
A grade times for the event were within a 1.5 second spread with the top performances being Tim Jolly (22.46), Steve Jones (22.47) and John Paul De Sousa (23.31s). Note that just 1/100 of a second separated Tim and Steve. B Grade times had a larger spread, but the top performances by James Newhouse (24.94s), Alison Hale (25.42s) and Ian Drayton (26.20s) were fine achievements.
2-Lap Handicap
This event produced a quick result that confirmed handicaps are about right. With about ¾ of lap to go the 10 riders seemed to come together and produce a “bait ball” of riders up the banking. At this stage, it’s up to someone to go through and sprint to get the win. James Newhouse did exactly that. He attacked and held off Warwick Wilson and Tim Jolly (off limit). James rode on the black line to get the win with Warwick Wilson 2nd and Tim Jolly 3rd.
Italian Pursuit – victory to Team 1
The Italian Pursuit had teams of five riders. On paper, Team 1 looked stronger over the initial laps, with Team 2 having anchor riders capable of chasing down a lead. However, theory and practice often differ in this event. Team 1 got off to a slightly erratic start, but Mark Canaider and James Newhouse eventually steadied and put on bursts of good pace to hold even with Team 2. Ian Drayton put out a solid second lap for Team 2. As the race progressed, Team 1 gained an initial lead with solid pace by Warwick Wilson and Steve Jones. Conan Liu burst from a Steve Jones lead out, to consolidate Team 1’s lead on the final lap. Team 2’s big hope was it’s anchor, Tim Jolly. However, Conan’s final burst was too brutal for Tim to chase down. Conan appeared to wrap it up comfortably for a 15m win to Team 1.
