From the Desk of the President
Some of you have been wondering if we are offering a crit season this year. And the answer is… yes!
For those of you who read the Bleat and the past several Bleat editions, or who look at our website, you will have seen that our crit season commences next week on Tues 7 Oct 2025.
Here’s our dot point executive summary for you:
- The RMS calendar with the crit and track season events will go live this Friday 3 October 2025
- There will be 21 criterium races at SFP including the Christmas wheel race qualifier on 16 December, and the Club crit champs in February 2026.
- You will be able to buy a crit season pass for $130, or a track pass for $80.
- If you buy a crit pass, you will be auto-entered into every race, except for the crit champs, when we will enforce manual entry so we can plan for the expected numbers.
- We have developed the following volunteer reward policy, and now it’s time to implement it.
- We will be offering these credits in lieu of honorariums to reward those who volunteer a lot, while encouraging others to meet the minimum volunteer commitment of 1 race per year to maintain your membership status in good standing.
- If you volunteered at a race since 1 January 2025, and did not accept our honorarium, by this Friday we will have back credited you so that these can be contribute to your balance to pay for a crit or track season pass. Or you can pay as you go for each event.
- For open road races, RDs, ETCs and van drivers will receive 8 credits each, and marshals 2 credits, where 1 credit = $10, and 1 race costs $10.
- For closed circuit races at SDTC, SFP, or Dairy Flat Rd, RDs will receive 4 credits, van drivers (where required) will receive 8 credits, and marshals 2 credits, where 1 credit = $10, and 1 race costs $10.
Here are some other changes to criterium racing this season
- Crits will start at 5.40pm, with these 4 grades D / E / F / G grades in a staggered start.
- We will trial running a women’s only criterium at the same time of 5.40pm and there will be a separate calendar entry for this, and we will stagger start this grade with the others.
- In past seasons, B grade has always been the largest grade up to 40+ riders and for this reason, we trial it as a standalone grade in its own time slot.
- We have been working on an overall re-grading of the whole membership for crits, which we will implement from Tues 6 January 2026. For those of you in between grades, this may come as welcome relief. Stay tuned.
- Our capable committee team of David B, Michael and Simon will be on hand next Tuesday at SFP to enforce our sign-on procedures and entry chute protocol to ensure that every racing member is a financial member who has registered online.
- We also look forward to welcoming back Ian Hutchings as Chief Photographer and our opening up volunteer.
Reduced Price Membership
Now available, reduced priced racing membership of $99 (same price as last year) for those new or renewing members wishing to join us financially for racing up to and including the Christmas criterium wheel race qualifier on 16 December 2025, or the equivalent track wheel race on 18 December 2025.

NARRABUNDAH TRACK PRACTICE SESSION
THURSDAY 9 OCTOBER 5.30 PM – 7.00 PM
ALL WELCOME – DON’T MISS IT !!
Daylight saving will soon be with us, and that means MASTERS TRACK RACING!!!!!
The track racing season will kick off with a Practice Session starting at 5.30pm on Thursday 9 October. There will be no racing. All interested riders are invited – particularly new riders and track novices. The practice session is free for CRMCC financial members and a great opportunity to give track a try!
Please note – CRMCC riders must register online prior for this session and prior to any other track session. Non registered riders cannot ride on the track. In order to register for this and any track session riders will need to be CRMCC financial members otherwise online registration will not work. Riders cannot register at a session. Riders interested in a trial session must complete the trial membership form online prior to 9 October. (non financial members – can only exercise that trial once in a season, after which they will need to join CRMCC membership)
Please register here for the free practice session Link to 9 October Track session rego
Please note that Narrabundah Track is a high-banked, oval track suitable only for conventional fixed gear track bikes with a high bottom bracket. We are unable to accommodate road bikes on this track.
Note:
- Narrabundah track is located off Goyder Street in Narrabundah.
- We welcome riders to try a high-banked track for the first time.
- New riders can get practical advice on gearing, bunch riding & track etiquette.
- Interested riders can try out a track bike (see note following).
- Experienced riders can tune up the machinery & motor.
- All riders can express their preference for events & races.
- The practice session will be around 1hr 30 mins starting at 5.30pm.
- There is no formal structure to the practice. We can assist with introductory training, if requested.
- You can do your own thing, if you prefer.
A few basics on track etiquette for the practice session:
- Use the designated track positions for cruising, tempo or fast pacing. (The faster you ride the higher you should be positioned on track. Overtake outside other riders).
- Hold your line – don’t make changes of speed or position unless you are clear of other riders.
- Be very careful if you are crossing or moving on / off the track. (It is your responsibility not to impede other riders in this situation).
- Start from the fence and be aware of riders approaching.
- It is best to wear clear or light tinted goggles. (The shaded portions of track have very low visibility with regular sunnies).
- All riders will need to be cautious, as there will be novice riders at the practice session.
Spare Track Bikes
We have spare track bikes if you are a novice and wish to try track racing. Note that you will need to bring your own pedals. You may need to pump up tyres (we will have a pump available) and adjust saddle / bar position. You will need to check over the bike for safety purposes. Although we will assist as far as practical, equipment safety and providing tools for fitting / adjustments is your responsibility.
Regular track racing will start on Thursday 16 October.
Each race session will cost $10, or purchase the season track pass for $80. The season pass is good value, as there are normally 17-19 race sessions per season.
Last year was another great season with a dedicated track group and 17 riders participating over the season. However, why should they have all the fun. If you have thought about it, come and give it a try. Attendance at track has tailed off over the last few years. We would like at least 5 – 10 more regulars this season.
