Winter Crits 1 – Race Report
Thank you to Ian, Ryan, and Michael for the setup, and to our race
directors in training, Tristan and Tony.
Sunday was bleak but warm with very little wind, though those who lost
a wheel might disagree.
A Grade
A Grade started with B Grade but was scored separately. Rainer was the
only A Grade starter and took the win. He and Darren animated the race
early on, though Darren’s multiple efforts eventually led to a DNF. A
significant split saw Christophe, Paul, Dougal, and Craig bridge
across to form a strong break. Rainer spent time in no-man’s-land
before successfully joining them. Craig won the sprint from the break,
followed by Brent in second and Christophe in third.
C Grade
C Grade was active from the start, with Mark, Josh, and Simon
repeatedly pushing the pace. Andrew was an early casualty following
his D Grade success last week. Markus rode a tactical race, attempting
to make splits efficiently. Victor performed well in his second race,
holding on deep into the event. Simon eventually gapped the field by
10 seconds. Despite chase efforts from Presto, Mark, and Josh, the gap
held. Simon took first place, Josh second, and Marek sprinted for
third.
D Grade
The race started with six riders, with Nick leading most of the
attacks. David and Kevin worked to neutralise the pace, and while
Kevin attempted a few breaks, the race finished in a sprint. David
took the win, with Kevin sprinting strongly for second over John.
E Grade
Only Ian and Michael showed up for E grade. They decided to race the
full distance. Michael attacked Ian with only 5 minutes on the clock
and managed to lap him for a formidable win. I can see Ian building up
for a strong summer season.

Lookout Hill Saturday 30 May 2026
Our next event will be at Lookout Hill from 1:30PM on Saturday 30 May. In the spirit of the traditional Gunning multi-stage event that has been held for many years, we are planning to run a short hot-lap time trial on the Lookout Hill course followed by a graded scratch race. This will be a points-based event rather than time-based due to the nature of the flat course. Riders will compete within their own grades on road bikes only. No time trial bikes or clip-on bars will be allowed. The idea is to ride the same set-up across the two stages.
We can only pull this off if we get the volunteer spots filled! We still require a Race Director, Marshal, ETC, and Van Driver. If you are willing and able to help out, please email committee@crmcc.org.au or fill in the spreadsheet below.
Upcoming races needing volunteers
Please self-register as a volunteer, where you can put your name down against those roles marked ‘Vacant’ in this Google spreadsheet. We will follow-up and confirm your volunteering with an email from committee@crmcc.org.au
Thank you to those members who have offered their services to fill roles so our races can run.
