Next Race – Crits at Stromlo Forest Park – Tuesday 11 November 2025

Please note, 5:40PM also holds the Women’s specific criterium grade (20mins) to foster participation and confidence in riding on the Stromlo Forest Park criterium track. Perfect for women and non-binary riders who are looking for an introductory ride or those that prefer cycling in a smaller group.
Race registration cut-off is 12:40pm. Cost is $10.
You need to register by looking up the calendar entry in the RMS https://rms.crmcc.org.au/calendar
You must wear your CRMCC assigned race number to race.
Late registrations will be assessed by committee@crmcc.org.au and if allowed, a late fee of $10 will be applied.
If you are unregistered and show up to the crit track, you must convince a committee member (not the Race Director) of your club member financial status for insurance purposes, before being allowed to participate.
All riders are required to sign on before their race start.
We will be running an entry chute, where riders are called 1 by 1 onto the circuit in numerical order of sign-on.
Please remember to check the RMS Calendar for race times each week now that we are back to rotating all 3 time slots.
Reduced Price Membership
Now available, reduced priced racing membership of $99 (same price as last year) for those new or renewing members wishing to join us financially for racing up to and including the Christmas criterium wheel race qualifier on 16 December 2025, or the equivalent track wheel race on 18 December 2025.
Pedal Power 50th Anniversary Ride
Pedal Power will conduct a ride from Woden to Stage 88 to mark its 50th anniversary. We don’t know what Canberra’s cycling infrastructure would have been like without PP battling away over the past 50 years, but I’m sure it would have been much worse! The Dickson to Woden on-road line was mainly thanks to PP’s lobbying prior to an election many years ago, and it certainly made commuting much safer for me. The ride is at a weird time, so bring your lights to get home safely. Website link is here.

Race Report – Stromlo Crits – 04 November 2025
The first Tuesday in November. This week it wasn’t the race that stopped the nation, it was the weather that stopped all but the hardest riders. Seventeen of CRMCC’s toughest showed their metal (or is that mental?) on Tuesday evening.
The first races were sparse – with no women for our social crit, and no racers for F or G grade.
D and E grade commenced proceedings with a combined trio of Kevin Newhouse, Chris Copeland and Rob Langridge who rolled away together on a sopping wet track. The rain was mostly holding off, but conditions were absolutely freezing. The riders assured me they had their race numbers on under many layers of clothing. The group rolled nicely as a bunch for their allotted time, and were thankful when the two laps to go board came out a little early. In the final sprint Chris Copeland took the E grade win over Rob Langridge. Kevin Newhouse strolled over the line to take the guaranteed win for D grade.
A grade managed four riders so podium places were not guaranteed. In the dramatic conditions, A grade produced an undramatic race – lapping as a bunch for almost the entire time. In the last minutes there were a couple of small attacks but nothing stuck. It came down to the final sprint where Leonard Pooley took the win, Steve Crispin second and Adam Rohweder taking third. Rainier Wilton rolled in for fourth and deserves a mention for just surviving the conditions.
C Grade produced the biggest field of the night with six riders. The field was bolstered by Kim Pedersen who had stepped down from B to C grade as she returns from injury. The bunch lapped very nicely together for half of the race. With 20 minutes to go Ian Preston, Charles Black and Eoin Rothery created a break splitting the group in half. The remaining riders, Shirley-Anne Taylor, Ros Harper and Kim Pedersen, attempted to chase but their group rapidly disintegrated. Kim then proceeded to casually bridge across to the leading group – the injury not taking an obvious toll! Despite putting in hard efforts, Shirley-Anne and Ros both left lapping solo would not make a return to the front bunch. In the last laps, Kim stretched out the front bunch making them work for their placings. The final sprint saw Eoin Rothery out-sprinting Charles Black followed by Ian Preston.
B Grade had four riders take the start line. Just as the track was drying a little, the sky darkened and the heavens opened. Halfway through their allotted suffering Dougal Robertson was out the back, however, the group backed off the pace allowing Dougal to catch back on. Minutes later, a dig from Mark Terracini saw Dougal out the back again – and he would not return this time. The remaining three riders lapped, pushing the pace to keep warm as icy rain bucketed down. In the rapidly fading light, Mark Terracini won the final sprint, Bruce Goodfellow came in second and Darren Blackhurst scored third.
Huge thanks to all of our volunteers who turned up to support the race in the wet and freezing conditions. Thank you to all of the riders who showed up to race despite the terrible weather and kept it upright (all of you crazy legends get a mention this week!). Hope you all managed to get a warm shower and a hot meal after the race.
