Gunning 2 Day Event

The deadline for registering for Gunning is getting close. The weather is looking good.

I encourage all members to sign up and make this a great event.

Dougal Torrance

Marshals

Bill Frost has kindly volunteered to be the Race referee for the two days. In order to run the event, he requires the assistance of Marshals, Escort Drivers and General Helpers to assist.

Payment of $30 per day is available to offset petrol costs and other expenses.

If you are willing to help, please contact Bill at: billfrost@bigpond.com

Portaloo

A Portaloo has been booked. We are looking for a volunteer to help with towing duties. If someone is staying in Gunning on Saturday evening and would be able to tow it back to their accommodation overnight, that would save having to tow it back to Canberra.

Please contact Kim Malcolm d.kimmalcolm@icloud.com Ph 0418643623 if you can assist.

Requirements

The cost will be $35 for the race and you must be a current member of the club within the AVCC. Please note that we do not have day licences available.

Riders will need to bring their helmet to the registration desk for inspection. Please note that it is an AVCC requirement that all riders must wear a helmet which meets Australian Standards.

Riders must have started the previous stage to compete the next stage. (i.e. if you don’t ride Saturday then you cannot start on Sunday)

This year we are going to try something different. The 4km prologue course will be UPHILL. Riders will start from the bottom of the hill (approx 4km from the signon desk) and ride back towards Gunning to the finish line at the top of the hill. Rides will need to make their way down to the start in plenty of time to make sure they are ready at their allocated starting time.

Prologue will start at 10:00am and riders will be sent off at 30 second intervals.

Note if you miss your allocated time you will be sent off at the discretion of the Race Referee.

The following limitation apply to the Prologue

  • No Disc Wheels or wheel covers
  • No Time Trial specific helmets
  • No Time Trial bars either specific or clip on

Tri Spoke or other deep dish wheels are allowed as long as the rim does not exceed 10cm.

RACE REPORTS:

Uriarra Rd – 29th April

Beautiful autumn conditions brought out a strong turn-out of more than 60 riders for the Uriarra Homestead road race on Saturday. The short, undulating course encouraged the sprinters and most of the grades finished in hotly contested bunch sprints.

A small but willing A grade field saw the first three placegetters crack the hour for the 39 kilometer course, with Michael Brice just pipping Christophe Barberet for first with Peter Marshall not far behind in third.

A big B grade field stayed largely intact for most of the race setting up another crackerjack sprint finish. Seymour Savell-Boss edged Roger Northcote and Jarrod Cook to take out the race. A fast pace in C grade saw some riders struggling to hold onto the bunch which started to splinter by the halfway mark. But in another big, close finish Stuart Roesler took out first, with Peter Klein and Ross McPherson rounding out the minor placings.

In D grade there were some early stragglers but they worked together well to regain contact. Brian Holloway produced a tremendous finish to win by several lengths from Brian Chugg and Terry Moore. A fast pace in E Grade saw some early casualties in the bunch, with a small but select group contesting the final sprint. In yet another close finish Gerald Van Ewyk took the honours from a fast finishing Don de Smet with Alex Sommariva rounding out the podium.

The F grade pace took its toll in the last third of the race, with the field spread out like browns cows at the finish. Alison Hale won comfortably from Lindsay Graham with another big gap to Edward Joliffe in third. And in G grade, Bernie Crow set a consistent pace to take out the win.

Many thanks to marshals John Paul De Sousa, Marc Vroomans, Michael Fould, Ali Roche and Rob Langridge. Graham Hendrie did his usual sterling job with set up and timing duties.
