Calling for Volunteers
Firstly, thank you for supporting our 2026 winter road racing season. Our club relies on riders helping riders, and we need a few volunteers to help keep the races running safely and smoothly throughout the rest of the season.
For the remainder of the winter season, we are looking for:
- Race Directors
- Finish Line Marshals
- Traffic Controllers (ETC-certified)
- Van Drivers
Without volunteers filling these roles, we risk not being able to run races, so we’re asking everyone to consider giving back to the club for a day. The more people who share the load, the easier it is for everyone to enjoy a full race season.
If you can help this weekend or volunteer for any race during the season, please reply to the committee mailbox (copied) or go to the volunteer calendar at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pkECTVAgOENts06YdwLNOaAI44JwQend/edit?pli=1&gid=1832900212#gid=1832900212
Thanks for helping keep our winter racing community strong and hope to see you out there soon.
Club Kit Order
Thanks to Jimmy from MVMNT for organising our Club kit order. Please use the link below to place an order directly with MVMNT. We will keep this kit portal open until Sunday 12 July. If you have any questions, please email us at the Committee.

Race Report – Sutton Driver Training Centre
Cool south easterly breezes met riders as they entered the gates to Sutton for round 3 of the series, and that breeze would seal the fate and chill the bones of all that ventured out for the racing. Volunteers and riders alike longed for consistent solar radiation, with the partly cloudy conditions causing some mild discomfort through the afternoon.
First off were A and B grades, with 50 minutes and a lap to try and make a difference on the punchy and twisty course.
In A, it was stalemate each time the bunch passed through the finish line, with the frustration manifesting on the face of at least one rider, as their attacks were thwarted by the long false flat into the headwind. Volunteers were treated to a mental holiday by the lack of decisive action in the small field, as discussions over which Mighty Boosh minor character Michael Fawke best resembled with his fisherman’s beard and floppy hat. In the end, Tristan Dimmock attacked on the bell lap to hurt the legs of the others, but he was unable to stay away with the 4 riding into the final straight together. In the end, the sprint saw Tristan finish with a triumphant moral victory yawp over Jason Irwin and Matt Corby, with Dan Lekhac rolling in casually behind.
In B grade, it was much the same story, with most of the action happening on the back section of the course out of sight of the race staff. Nonetheless, the monotony of the group all together past the finish was broken periodically by the likes of Dougal Robertson, Nathan Spillane and Bruce Goodfellow, with Dougal and Nathan individually holding a narrow solo lead over the chasers in the closing laps. Nathan deserves the bikkies for most time spent off the front, while Bruce gets the gong for most aggressive on the final bell lap. In the end, they arrived on the main straight together, with Todd Sowter bringing home the field, followed by Bruce and Andrew Murrell, who were separated by a tyre width on the line.
In C Grade, it was a case of rinse and repeat, but for 40 minutes, with the long grind into the headwind dampening the enthusiasm for breakaways. Lap after lap, they rode through together, with magnanimous sharing of workload to this writers eye. After observing how little action past the line the weather caused for the A/B race, David Buckley launched an attack for the cameras on lap 5, letting race staff know vocally just how keen he was to warm our hopes of a race report with a storyline. Over the punchy right hander climb, Ian Preston was off in pursuit, with the remainder unwilling to commit to following the wheel. Meanwhile, a determined effort by Katie Gregory kept the gap pretty consistent to the group as she fought through the laps on a cold and windy time trial.
With his lead still tentative, Ian would press on, putting David in difficulty on the finish straight, and riding on alone. Next to go solo was Victor Boumard, whose lead vanished on the back part of the course before Ian was again off the front til the penultimate lap. The riders clearly happy to have brought him back, as there was friendly banter between riders with 2 laps to go. In the end, Marek Bilski took the sprint choccies, with Simon Porombka and Mick Hanbury filling out the podium.
In D Grade, a small group swapped turns for much of the race, with Alan Bontjer an early casualty of the pace on lap 4 and Rob Langridge dropping off on Lap 5. Impressively, Rob managed to get back on terms and stayed with the race for the remainder. On the bell lap, an aggressive move by Nick Boylan opened a gap going into the first corner, which was chased down promptly by Ali Hale. The two joined forces at the top of the climb before rolling away together til the final straight, where Ali attacked long range to stay away for the W, with Nick taking second and Jonno Chowns taking third.
In the volunteer stakes, Ian Hutchings again took the lead with photographic documentation, while Kevin Newhouse, Michael Reppion, Michael and Ryan Fawke formed the main bunch, leading the event to a glorious victory over wildlife, weather and admin. Thank you for your service, and for your company.
