From the Presidents Desk
I last wrote back in May calling for help. We have a volunteer to help with the Van for maintenance schedule and any new Van drivers for the club. Thank you Chris Nolan.
This time we need someone to help act as editor and publish The Bleat. Unfortunately work commitments have made it difficult for Michael to continue and we seek someone with an hour a week to help. Training will be provided. We are hoping to move to a less hands on model with the person involved able to implement this strategy. Thank you to Michael Langdon for his good work this year.
Our 30th year celebrations approach and we seek assistance from someone of our membership to assist with such an event. We are compiling a special 30 year celebration newsletter and if you have any special memories you think need to be included please let us know. We were suggesting an occasion away from cycling
If you are able to help out and can afford a couple of hours a month please let us know via president@actvets.cc or committee@actvets.cc

Sutton Super Series – Race Report
A – After disappearing around the first corner a horrific pace was set from which there were numerous casualties. After a pointy middle race with many strong attacks, a decisive break was made by Steve Crispin. He appeared to be on track for a solo win until Ben Morrison bridged across. The pair stayed away to the finish where Ben outsprinted Steve to the line. The A grade podium was rounded out by Denis Mungoven.
B – The enthusiastic riders in today’s B grade were willing to put themselves on the line in difficult conditions however none were able to make a successful break and in a couple cases the effort appeared to be near fatal. Michael Rowland built a small gap in a long three man sprint into the wind. Craig Tozer just beat Chris van der Spek for second to complete the B grade podium.
C – Despite the bunch being constantly stretched by some very strong riders, the C grade mainly stayed intact throughout today’s race. Gregory Harris led Krusty Bryant and Luke Philps with a small gap to the bunch on the last run through the top esses. He impressively maintained his lead from the two MyRide riders to head today’s top three.
D – In windy conditions, D grade set a strong pace putting some riders on the limit. After clawing his way back to the bunch on multiple occasions, Rob Langridge pulled the pin with only 1 lap to go. (I guess Rob had a good excuse, cemented 4th and had to get organised for the prizes). In the sprint for podium places, Andrew Hislop bested Mark Taylor and Shirley-Anne Taylor.
EF – The E grade provided no mercy to the lone F grader Chris Copeland and set a strong pace from the start of the race. In a gripping duel, Elizabeth Lowe gapped Ian Morton with over 10 minutes to go and steadily expanded her lead for a strong victory. Ian and Chris showed their determination by pushing in the wind until the end of their races.
Daniel Lekhac – Race Director
The sixth race of the series concluded on a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon on 9 September.
Over 100 riders participated in six races over the winter to accumulate points to be crowned overall
champion in each grade. The final round was worth double points and those that had competed in
every round got an addition 12 points. This was to reward consistency but, in the end, only seven
riders would be able to front for every round. Prizes for the top three were:
3rd $30 voucher from Evoke Bakery in Curtin
2nd $50 voucher from Two Blind Mice restaurant in Curtin
1st $100 voucher from Trek Majura Park.
There were also a few Cranky’s Bicycle Worx vouchers given out during the barrel draw.
Winners – E grade, 1st Liz Lowe, 2nd Ian Morton
D grade – 1st Mark Taylor, 2nd Shirley-Anne Taylor, 3rd Rob Langridge
C grade – 1st Greg Harris, 2nd Krusty Bryant, 3rd Stuart Roesler
B grade – 1st Michael Rowland, 2nd Craig Tozer, 3rd David Parker
A grade – 1st Toby McLenaghan, 2nd Steve Crispin, 3rd Ben Morrison
Shirley-Anne was one of the Cranky’s Bicycle Worx voucher winners
Darren was one of the happy recipients of the Crankshaft barrel prize.
Kevin and Dan ensured the races ran smoothly. Thanks volunteers!

Racing Calendar changes – please see below
Subject to approvals from NSW and ACT governments, the dates have changed for the following events:
Sunday, October 15 | The 2023 Gunning (aka Peter McLennan Memorial) event. Start/Finish at Bredalbane, using the community hall as race central Consists of a TT event followed by the usual 48km lap – once or twice depending on your grade. The handicapper is considering letting D grade vote on their lap count… The single day approach facilitates (i) the ability to attract potential 2024 members though the use of the single day trial licence, and (ii) reduces event costs hiring NSW traffic controllers. |
