Traffic Controller Training

Members, the club is desperately short of qualified event traffic controllers (ETCs) to help run our road racing program. We’re also seeking to expand our small pool of NSW-qualified ETCs. This would enable us to return to race at classic sites like Dog Trap Road, Gunning and Cooma.

If you’ve enjoyed racing with the club over the years, or if you’re a new member who wants to experience the joy of racing on the open road, please support us by volunteering to do the ETC course.

The club will pay for the costs of the course. You will receive a nationally-recognised qualification and new skills. Volunteering with the club as an ETC will also get you generous race credits.

At this stage, our course provider MBA (ACT)/Admire runs the course over three days during the week. However, if we have enough interest, we will seek to negotiate a weekend course so members do not have to take leave from work.

Please respond to committee@crmcc.org.au. Thanks to those who have already responded.

Road Racing is Coming….this Sunday!

Race registration cut-off is 12:40pm. Cost is $10.

Late registrations will be assessed by committee@crmcc.org.au and if allowed, a late fee of $10 will be applied.
If you are unregistered and show up to the crit track, you must convince a committee member (not the Race Director) of your club member financial status for insurance purposes, before being allowed to participate.

All riders are required to sign on before their race start.

We will be running an entry chute, where riders are called 1 by 1 onto the circuit in numerical order of sign-on.

Race Report – SFP 10 March 2026

Presented by your race marshal, Deadly Dave Johnson; the ever‑reliable medics and track‑cleaning superheroes Mike and Ryan; and our master of the shutter, the legendary Ian Hutchings.

E Grade – 8 Riders & 1 Fashion Icon

E Grade kicked things off, featuring the undisputed best‑dressed rider of the night, Andree Swenson. With a race suit so eye‑catching it could be seen from orbit, any hopes of a sneaky breakaway were… optimistic.

Rider 38, Jonathan Chowns, had the script written early. After sliding into the lead mid‑race, he toyed with the bunch like a cat with a wind‑up mouse. The pack gave chase in the final lap, but Jonathan held them at arm’s length, taking a decisive win. Phillip Martin sprinted in for second, with Frank O’Sullivan grabbing bronze.

D Grade – The Josh Quolliam Solo Half Hour

The D Grade race can be summed up in four words: catch me if you can. Josh Quilliam announced his intentions early, flicked the switch to disappear, and rode off like he had an appointment to get to.

Spectator commentary was top‑tier, with Ryan Fawke providing the line of the night:

“I’m a terrible runner and I could run faster than that chasing pack.”

Behind Josh, the bunch woke up just in time for a chaotic sprint. Rob Langridge and Nick Boylan exploded up the back straight, only for Rob to gracefully roll over the finish line and graciously gifting second to Alison Hale and third to David Gunther. Alison and Dave — make sure to thank Rob.

And if this were 1915, the entire field would have been smoked by Al Bontjer anyway.

A & C Grade – Two Races, Two Vibes

A Grade – Attack, Counterattack, Repeat

A Grade delivered pure entertainment: attacks, counters, and more attempts off the front than a Black Friday sale.

Key moves:

  • Rider 223 opened the hostilities.
  • Rider 681 shut it down.
  • Rider 257 countered.
  • Riders 43 + 187 launched next.
  • Then 43 + 58 tried again, because why not?
  • With three minutes left, rider 43 (Michael Tolhurst) was still hammering away and refusing to quit.

In the end, Jeremy Gillman‑Wells (172) took a classy win, ahead of Chris Murphy (187) and Jason Irwin (382).
PS: You all know exactly who you are.

C Grade – Full Gas, No Breaks, No Breakaways

C Grade ran the “pedal to the metal” strategy from the gun.
No clear break formed, but the intensity was constant.

The win went to the self‑proclaimed smartest rider of the night, Lance Purdon, who played his cards perfectly. Second and third went to Wesley Pendlebury and Norris Robertson.

Honourable mentions:

  • Ian Preston for opening with a flying attack and throwing in another one mid‑race.
  • The Simons (Junakovic & Costello), who worked like a metronome on the front.
  • Ed Lounge for keeping the speed high.
  • And of course, the ever‑consistent Mark Vardy.

B Grade – “Doesn’t the Race Start at 6:50?”

The quote of the night belongs to Paul Scherl, who rocked up 50 seconds late and confidently asked:

“Doesn’t the race start at 6:50?”

Yes it did….

Paul launched into the race a lap down and just got on with business. Meanwhile, the bunch got rolling halfway through, with Luke Philps, Dougal Robertson, and a relieved Mike Fawke (thrilled no one was bleeding on the track) animating the tempo on the sidelines.

The front of the race changed hands repeatedly until Mark Harris went full Terminator, yelling “catch me if you can” and launching repeated attacks over the final three laps. It earned him a hard‑fought second and the most combative for the night.

But the final sprint belonged to Luke Philps, with Mark Harris in second and Ed Pellegrino completing the podium.

Thanks All!

A huge thank‑you to every rider for staying upright, and to the entire CRMCC crew who make these nights smooth, safe, and a whole heap of fun.
